Inconsistent newlines in fish shell under Lubuntu 18.10

I have recently installed Lubuntu 18.10 and have found the qterminal messes with the behavior of the fish shell.



Fish shell adds a newline to the end of commands who's outputs don't already end in one. Under qterminal, a newline seems to always be added. This does not happen under other terminal emulators. How can this be resolved?
