Storage performance slowed down after changing RAID 5 configuration

0

I have an HP Proliant server with CentOS 6.9.

  1. First I had 4x 10k disks in RAID 5 and I created 2 filesystems on it. When I was restoring my database it only took 1 hour.

  2. A few days ago, I changed my hardware configuration. Now I have 5x 10k disks with RAID 5 and it took about 6 hours to restore the same database.

Question is: What could be the reason for the slow-down?

  • Please state if you use mdadm or what kind of controller you have.

  • Also, please add your specific model of HP Proliant server.

  • In addition, you could state why you have decided to use RAID 5, which is just horrible.
