Stuck in Linux VMware
i have a kali linux virtual machine been working on it for 2 years and today i decide to upgrade it but it didn't work so i decide to look online and somewhere i found a solution that says i should do the following commands:
after that i apt-get upgrade apt-get update then i restart the machine and i get stuck in a black screen and this keeps popping up:
I can still go into recovery mode so what are my options here ? i don't mind reverting it if possible i just don't want to lose the machine i have a backup but its 6 months old so many information will be lost :(

Can you do a backup from recovery mode without overwriting your existing backup?
