Install SYSLINUX/EXTLINUX on LVM partition

0

I would like to install EXTLINUX on an LVM partition, i.e., not the MBR. I have a BIOS partition (not GPT) /dev/sda2 which contains an LVM volume group with two logical volumes. One (/dev/vg/boot) is formatted with ext4 and mounted as /boot.

Running extlinux -i /boot yields

/boot/ is device /dev/mapper/vg-boot

After that there is no bootloader at the beginning of /dev/sda2, i.e., dd if=/dev/sda2 bs=512 count=1 | hexdump -C yields only 0. However, there seems to be some code at the beginning of /dev/vg/boot resp. /dev/mapper/vg-boot.

Is it possible to chainload this code from grub2 residing in MBR?

Update: /dev/vg-boot starts 2048 blocks (each 512 bytes) from the beginning of /dev/sda2. Using

set root=(hd0, msdos2)
chainloader +2048

does not work (signature not recognized). Using 2047 or 2049 does not work either.
