vim: how to read unix command without newline?

0

Suppose this.
I want to edit new libvirt xml

virsh dumpxml machine1 > machine2.xml

Then I open with vim

vim machine2.xml

I want to change the uuid, and I use this sequence

:r ! uuidgen

But the new uuid go under /uuid with a newline

  <uuid>6r123ttz-6t01-356t-1y7h-g7oe196c8u3m</uuid>
e67baf90-751b-4aea-a14b-aca1b881542b

I want a result like this
Maybe firts I delete the old uuid

  <uuid></uuid>

then in the line empty I want the correct uuid without the newline

  <uuid>e67baf90-751b-4aea-a14b-aca1b881542b</uuid>

The question is: is possible to user the :r command without newline?
