Need some help in the data tables format

1

I have this part in my html script.

<?php
$conn = new mysqli('localhost','root','password','matrix');
$sql = $conn->query('SELECT * FROM vmware');
while($data = $sql->fetch_array())
{
echo '
<tr>
<td>'.$data['x'].'</td>
<td>'.$data['x'].'</td>
<td>'.$data['x'].'</td>
<td>'.$data['x'].'</td>
<td>'.$data['x'].'</td>
<td>'.$data['x'].'</td>
</tr>';
}
?>
</tbody>

The first part of the html file prints the column names which completes successfully, then here in this part I am basically printing out the data from the table. Just renamed fields to x.

Instead of pulling out the data from the table, it is just echoing stuff.

query('SELECT * FROM vmware'); while($data = $sql->fetch_array()) { echo ' '; } ?>

Then table headers and each of the column cell details has '.$data['x'].' as values. I am totally lost as to what is wrong here.
