RedHat/Centos6.5 Environmental Variables Set on Startup - but from where?

0

I am new to Unix and Linux and Redhat/Centos 6.5.

I am starting up the system and it already has environment variables set and is already running processes when it starts up.

I can see the variables using PRINTENV but my license managers for software say processes are already running but I cannot see them - I use ps and I see no processes running.

My questions:

1) Where do these environment variables get set ? I dont see them in .bashrc or any other .bash type files, yet upon startup they are set when I use PRINTENV. Where and when are they set ? How can I change them permanently ?

2) Where do these processes get set and how do I know what is running?

I am trying to set up license servers for software I am running that require licenses. It says a license server is running but ps shows me nothing.

Thank you for your help.
