Manjaro very slow and stuttering while pacman -Syu is running
Whenever I do a sizeable pacman -Syu
(~100s of packages) Manjaro (with Cinnamon) becomes very slow and unresponsive. Although the CPU usage seems to stay below 10% (probably just saturating one core) the GUI occasionally becomes very stuttery and unresponsive for 5-30 secs. Even keyboard commands are processed after a several-second delay. This seems to depend on package being updated, since whenever the stuttering happens, it often stops as soon as the package finished updating.
I've tried switching the terminal process to Very Low priority but that hasn't improved the situation. I suspect that in any case the problem is the number of files in the package, so I don't think priority would necessarily be useful.
Besides going through the pacman log and hoping to find a useful error message, is there a way of diagnosing and troubleshooting the problem? At this point all I know is that updating causes massive lag, but I have no idea what to search for or where to look for more details. Alternatively, is this a known issue with an easy solution?

Your setup rig and what it is doing is not described here, it is not possible to say something meaningful
