Why there is limitation on reverse connection support in few softwares?

0

I am using Proxy Pro remote network access software and it's doing great. But recently I have observed that there are two ways it is connecting to the target system

  1. Direct Connection (TCP/IP) - Supports around 10,000 hosts

  2. Reverse Connection (SSL over 443) - Supports only 2000 hosts

Now Question is: What made them design the software with this constraint? I would like to understand direct and indirect connections, along with protocols/ports. I am sure there are many articles on direct and indirect connections but it's not giving me the exact reason behind above host counts.

Does reverse connection is an expensive operation?

I am not geek on networks!
