What do “virtualization without HW support” and “virtualization with HW support” mean?
Modern Operating Systems says
The various categories of virtualization we have discussed are
summarized in the table of Fig. 7-2 for both type 1 and type 2
hypervisors. For each combination of hypervisor and kind of
virtualization, some examples are given.
What do "virtualization without HW support" and "virtualization with HW support" mean?
Do they try to emulate the same things?
How do they differ?
Since a type 2 hypervisor is built upon a host OS, while a type 1 hypervisor on a bare metal machine, isn't it that "virtualization without HW support" means literally exactly the same as type 2 hypervisor, and "virtualization with HW support" the same as type 1 hypervisor?
Thanks.

If they're the same, how can you draw a two-dimensional table like that…
